My Solo Fight Against SPAM
November 13, 2003

In my opinion spammers are slimy, slippery, squirmy parasites trying to suck every penny out of your wallet. In the process they often leave a little souvenir - called virus - behind. Unfortunately, a can of RAID alone won't do the job.

Do you recognize some of these e-mail headers? I found them in my inbox just yesterday:

e-Mail Subject Line My Comments
Fw:permanent JCNQKMJFZ Lovingly sent by irenna bassinkayvmda, whose alphabet soup had obviously settled in her brain rather than her stomach!
DD mm==ddz uu can order from home mak And you can go to you-know-where, mak!
TO need meds dee I don't think semmunigus studen can be found in my address book and frankly, I couldn't care less about his need for dee.

Poor arn amrioto doesn't know how he feels. First he forgets his name, then he doesn't remember who he had already sent this e-mail to. Sounds like a cry for help to me!

I used to get very angry at spam and spammers. In fact, that's how I first caught myself talking out loud to the computer, often shouting four-letter words as each new spammer-sent message appeared. After all, spam IS a four-letter word. By the way, I have never in my life used foul language, so this must remain a secret between you, the computer and myself!

The war was on. It gave me great satisfaction to report each and every spammer to the appropriate hosting company or e-mail provider. Until I realized how much valuable time I was wasting! Enter MailWasher Pro, a simple yet sophisticated little utility that accomplishes sooooo much.

  • It stop spam, viruses, and other unwanted e-mail before they get to my computer.
  • It quickly downloads message headers from my eight e-mail accounts using simultaneous checking, and displays them on ONE screen (from, subject line, date and time, size, account, status).
  • It lets me know which senders are blacklisted.
  • It bounces e-mail back to the spammers so it looks as though my address is not valid.
  • It has the ability to automatically mark spammer-generated messages for BOUNCE and DELETE.
  • It lets me take a peek at any message on a split preview screen so I won't accidentally bounce and delete a non-spam message.
  • It comes with a set of seven easy to configure spam tools.
  • It is a spammers worst nightmare!

Do you know what really would stop spammers in their track? Nobody responding! Ever! Could somebody out there invent a utility that stops a receiver from responding perhaps??!!

In my mind's eye I see a mandatory utility that detects spam and automatically freezes the reply button and all links contained in the message. It could be called ReplyWasher. How about it?
